What’s in your carry-on? Some luxurious – portable – perfumes, yes?
Right now, travellers are in the sights of the perfume houses. Dinky little travel kits, slimline atomisers, and his and hers minis give jet-setters variety when they travel and ensure they don’t flout airlines’ rules on carry-on liquid limits. Travel kits are also a great way to try before you buy – to experience, over a holiday break, several you might be having trouble choosing between.
Penhaligon’s, Creed, Cire Trudon, Kilian, and Juliette Has A Gun are among those well-loved brands creating fragrances keen to come on that journey to the four corners of the world. These are some to watch out for…

Penhaligon’s is also soon to release two His & Her Minis: sets that include five festive 5ml bottles. For her: Halfeti, Empressa, Artemisia, Vaara and Iris Prima. (Empressa has recently emerged in a new eau de perfume guise, a mossy wood-chypre with citrusy top notes underpinned by Bulgarian rose, peach and pink pepper.) The men’s mini comprises Quercus, Blenheim Bouquet, Endymion, Halfeti and Juniper Sling. Note the crossover. Cost: $112

The House of Creed was founded 257 years ago, in 1760 in England, and the first fragrance ever made was commissioned by King George III in 1781. Creed caters to the decisive. Choose a handsome atomiser ($199) and then decide which fragrance you want as a recidivist refill – Aventus, Silver Mountain Water, Royal Oud or Green Irish Tweed? Three 10ml refills will keep you travelling in style. Cost: $239
By Kilian has the golden touch. Watch for the travel versions of Woman in Gold (for her), a chypre floral fragrance, created by Clarice Becker and launched in 2017, as was Gold Knight (for him), a woody oriental, created by Pascal Gaurin. Both will come in a 30ml refillable travel set. In the meantime, there’s By Kilian’s pretty fruity floral Good Girl Gone Bad travel atomizer with three 30ml refills. Cost: $299
Cire Trudon released five perfumes to supplement the French company’s legendary candles last year and the promotional box of elegant vials became so popular it has become a “product” in its own right, the Trudon Discovery Coffret. Just as well, because choosing from among the heady offerings of Bruma, II, Revolution, Olin and Mortel is next to impossible. Pack the lot. In an elegant navy box, each slim spray is 10ml. Cost: $110.
